"BRING ME HOME," Soldier awareness project
Because the Bush administration invaded Iraq based on convoluted
evidence, because our soldiers are dying for an unjust cause, because
we are borrowing money from other countries to finance this military
effort that spends little on supporting the troops and most on war
profiteers, because the real work of finding
individuals and groups who wish
to do us harm has been interrupted by the actions in Iraq, because we
are making enemies all over the world and isolating ourselves....
...we call for an end to the occupation of Iraq and for
redeployment of our
troops in a more effective campaign against individual terrorists and
their organizations.
The BRING ME HOME: Soldier Awareness Project is an
idea inspired by the work of other peace activists.
While
attending the State Democratic Convention in Michigan, one of our
youngest members was given a toy "army man." On the bottom of the
plastic soldier were the words "BRING ME HOME."
Clearly, the idea is to evoke the tragic human cost our men and women
pay as they serve our country in this unjust occupation. The plastic
soldiers are meant to be left in public places for others to find.
Our hope is to offer a moment of reflection to each person
who reads the soldier's message. Our hope is that some will be inspired
to discuss the occupation of Iraq with friends and family. Most of all, we
hope a few will be inspired to do something to bring an end to the
occupation so that "BRING ME HOME" becomes a reality for the troops
in Iraq.
Write a letter to your local paper. Tell members of your community
why we must bring our soldiers home.
Call your senators or congressional representative. Tell them to bring
our soldiers home.
Vote for Democrats and Independents who want to end the occupation
and do the work to stay out of other unnecesary military
actions.
